The Biometric Time Clock Revolution

Time Clock RevolutionThe traditional punch clock has seen its day and is now an archaic relic of the working sector from the days of old. Today time clock attendance has become much more advanced—much more sophisticated. With the rise of biometric technology, the need for more advanced tracking and time clock technology is greatly needed throughout the world. The reason is because traditional time clock machines simply aren’t an effective means for time keeping anymore. In a recent study, it was estimated that a number of large corporate businesses were loosing millions of dollars due to employees showing up late, leaving early, and ‘buddy clocking’.

Biometric access control is growing quickly large organization such as banks, airports factories and corporate businesses tend to set the trend with this type of technology. Chances are if you’ve recently seen or we encountered some type of biometric scanner, whether it is clocking or access control or simply to log computers on/off.

While there have been some major advancement with card readers like smart cards—the fact is that cards are often wrongly used. Though technological advancements have made it increasingly difficult, it’s still possible to pirate a swipe card. Swipe cards or pin numbers you can be copied or obtained covertly where as a biometric scan is a lot harder to copy in fact almost impossible.

Biometric Technology—Reinventing The Traditional Time Clocks

More often than not, when people hear biometric they instantly think of fingerprint technology. Though fingerprint biometric time clock software is, by in large, the most common type of biometric technology used in the business sector today—it is certainly not the only one. Fingerprint biometrics are the most common and least expensive to implement. The fingerprint biometric time clock simply takes several pin point readings of ridges and dips in the employee’s unique fingerprint and subsequently uses a complicated algorithm that stores these unique prints as an individual code.

Other Readers

Other types such as hand recognition require big bulky readers. The terminal captures a three-dimensional image of the hand each time the employee places their hand in the reader. The hand’s size and the shape are used to verify their identity. These types of systems are almost double the cost of fingerprint systems.

In Sum

Though face and iris recognition software is out on the market—it is often very costly and unnecessary for medium-to-low clearance businesses. All of these biometric technologies have a place in today’s security and businesses efficiency; however, fingerprint biometrics is among the most effective and inexpensive to implement.  Not to mention, the fingerprint scanners, when used for time and attendance, will save you a significant sum of money. If on the other hand you want more security than just the fingerprint scanner, but don’t feel the need to opt with iris or facie recognition—you might want to try the dual method of fingerprint and card, which offers a very high level of access control for your security applications. Not to mention, it’s less expensive than the iris, voice and face recognition.
