Switching to a Biometric Time Clock is Easier Than You Think
It’s true that there are still a lot of companies out there which use time sheets and a mechanical clock; or perhaps even handwritten time sheets alone to keep track of employee time and attendance. While this method has served us well for a long time now, it’s getting more than a little old fashioned by this point. There are a lot of arguments to be made in favor of switching to a new biometric time clock instead of staying with your old mechanical Bundy clock – for instance, all the money your firm will save by making this much needed upgrade.
Time sheets aren’t free you know; and of course, neither are the ink ribbons and replacement parts that a mechanical time clock needs periodically. Naturally, a biometric clock also costs money – but they require no consumable supplies which must be purchased over and over again and for that matter, they’re a sound investment which will last your company for years on end, providing savings each and every day that the clock is in use.
Now, if you’ve been using your current time and attendance system for decades, be it handwritten time sheets or time cards stamped by your old Bundy clock, there may well be a little resistance to change, at least at first. It’s only natural to worry a bit about the challenges which may accompany a shift to new technology in the workplace, but in the case of upgrading to a biometric time clock, there is really nothing at all to worry about.
These clocks can be installed quickly and easily, being up and running in a matter of hours. They can either be installed at the close of the workday or during a shift, in which case employees may clock in that day using their old time cards or time sheets and clock out before leaving on your company’s new biometric clock. It truly is that easy to install and configure – and since it can be integrated with your firm’s existing accounting and time and attendance software in many cases, it actually saves you quite a bit of time in the long run. We could all use a few more minutes in the day, after all and these clocks can do just that and much more besides.
Setting up a biometric time clock is actually pretty simple; you (or your IT staff, if your company has one) set a few parameters and then assign each employee a unique identifier which they’ll use to clock in and out. Depending on the exact model of clock you install, this may be a PIN code, the employee’s finger or thumbprint or a tag which is read by the clock’s proximity sensor. It’s easy to set up in any case and within a matter of hours, your firm can begin enjoying the benefits of having a truly modern and truly accountable employee time and attendance system.
