Does It Matter What Kind Of Time Clock You Use?

Upgrade Your Old Time ClockReally, if your old punch clock is still working, should you replace it with a new biometric time clock? Is it that important? For that matter, what’s the difference between an older Bundy clock and the new electronic and biometric time and attendance products out there? There are businesses still using punch clocks with no apparent ill effect but of course there is also a rapidly growing number of companies adopting these new attendance technologies and as you can imagine, there must be a reason for it.

There are differences between the time clock models out there and once you know more about them and how they can provide your business with an edge over rivals who haven’t yet upgraded their time clocks you’ll certainly want to start thinking about making the switch yourself. Keep reading for a quick rundown of some of your time and attendance options.

Punch Clocks

First off is the old familiar punch clock. You probably know everything there is to know about these already, so we’ll move on rather than cover the (very limited) features that these clocks offer.

PIN Code Clocks

Providing all of the accuracy of an electronic time clock and the added security of a PIN code based login system, these are the time clock of choice for smaller and mid-sized companies especially, though models are available which are designed to handle as many as 1,000 employees. If your company is one which is less at risk for security breaches, PIN time clocks are a good choice, though they don’t provide as much security as a biometric access control system.

Proximity Sensor Clocks

Unlike the PIN code based models, proximity time clocks use sensors to detect cards issued to authorized personnel for login (or in the case of an electronic or biometric access control system, entry to your building). They’re still not a time and attendance system which is immune to time theft, though staff are less likely to swap ID cards than they are to tell each other their PIN codes so that they can clock in for one another.

Fingerprint Clocks

This is a truly biometric time clock which uses a completely unique identifier for each employee: their own fingerprint. These systems can completely stop time theft (unless your employees somehow find a way to swap fingers with one another) and as part of an access control system, can ensure that no unauthorized personnel are able to fool the system and enter your facilities without your permission. Along with an additional camera, it’s a great security measure and a great time and attendance system which can save your company money in more ways than one.
